Mr. Lazarus retired in August 1996 after 11 years with Microsoft Corporation, where he served most recently as Vice President, Strategic Relations.
As a member of Microsoft's executive staff he managed a wide variety of marketing groups.
Mr. Lazarus also directed the publication and marketing of the international best seller "The Road Ahead" by Bill Gates. More than 2,500,000 copies have been sold in more than 25 languages. He was also responsible for Microsoft's support of general education.
He began work at Microsoft in 1985 as part of the team marketing the early versions of Windows®. An advocate, at Microsoft, for the independent hardware and software developer, he was responsible for Microsoft's Developer Relations Group and pioneering new programs for developers including the Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN),
Microsoft Systems Journal, software developer kits, Jump-start CDs, professional developer conferences and open system design reviews.
As Director, Systems Strategy and Vice President, Systems Marketing, Mr. Lazarus coordinated systems product marketing, public relations, communications, trade show and co-marketing efforts. He developed the Windows logo and its licensing program.
He set new standards for product launch events from Windows 3.0 to Windows 95 and Bill Gates' major presentations for ten years including the production of dozens of award-winning films and video tapes. His innovative use of television included interactive videos, worldwide satellite events, and the first nationwide prime-time television special to introduce a consumer product nationwide which brought Microsoft's message to millions of new customers.
Prior to Microsoft, Mr. Lazarus developed some of the leading computer-related publications including PC Magazine and PC Week for Ziff Davis Publishing Company. At Ziff-Davis he served as Editor in Chief of PC Magazine and Vice President, Editorial, pioneering new approaches to computer trade journalism.
Earlier, he held executive positions with A.C. Nielsen and American Broadcasting Companies where he developed television research and marketing systems to support the sales of programming and advertising including the
Cassandra television program rating analysis system.
A native of Philadelphia, PA. Mr. Lazarus holds a Bachelor of Science degree in communications from Temple University.
